Alaska Trip

Published: September 14, 2019

My second trip to Alaska. It was a really nice time to get away from my routine and the distractions of regular life and spend some time in one of God's masterpieces. I was just as amazed at the beauty and scale of this place as I was on my first trip. And I can't believe how many trees there are up here!

Denali Bus Ride.

  • Looking past the Chulitna River to Denali.
  • Denali peaking above the clouds.
  • View of the Teklanika River, near where I camped.
  • Group of grizzly bears by the Teklanika River
  • The bear showing off his teeth.

Denali Hiking

My last day in Denali was spent hiking around the visitor center area of the park, including a hike up Mt. Healy. I really enjoyed the contrast between the dark green conifer trees and the bright yellow deciduous trees. I spent the night at a small motel north of the park on my way to Fairbanks.

Angel Rocks Hike

I nice morning hike a little outside of Fairbanks to place called Angel Rocks. The big rock formations pocking through the forest reminded me a lot of the Black Hills in South Dakota. It was a really peaceful area.

Exploring Fairbanks

I spent some time exploring Fairbanks itself, including a park and a private nature reserve and a car museum both attached to my hotel.

Heading South

I missed a trail or two on my first pass through Denali and decided to hit them on my way south. I stopped for the night at Lake Eklutna just north of Anchorage.

The End

My last day in Alaska was spent at Whittier. I had other plans, but I decided that I really wanted to see the coast before I left. I also stopped at an animal sanctuary that had some interesting critters that I probably won't ever see in the wild, like musk oxen. On my way to the airport, I stopped at a wetland park on the south side of Anchorage.
